Night at the Fair
DESCRIPTION
Hull Fair claims to be the largest travelling funfair in Europe, with over 250 rides and a wide variety of food stalls and other attractions.
The fair takes place over nine days in the city of Kingston upon Hull, England, opening every day except Sunday. It always includes the official Hull Fair day of 11th October and is opened by the Lord Mayor of Hull on the opening Friday evening.
Hull Fair received its first Royal Charter in 1279, making it one of the oldest fairs in the country. It moved to its current location to the east side of Walton Street in 1888. The fair continues to attract thousands of visitors from around the UK and beyond.
The photos in this book were taken between 2017 and 2024. They document life at Hull Fair by night – the rides, workers, and visitors, as well as the food stalls, behind-the-scenes equipment and local streets around the fair – sights that often get overlooked.
All photography, editing, design, layout, sequencing and text by Derek Taylor.
